Join in the clap for Neath Port Talbot’s foster carers
19 May 2020
Neath Port Talbot Council’s Fostering Team is encouraging residents to wear something orange during this Thursday's clap for key workers in recognition of all the foster carers in Neath Port Talbot.
In conjunction with the Foster Care Fortnight (Monday 11th May to Sunday 24th May) campaign, the team is asking people to show their appreciation for the valuable work foster carers do to keep vulnerable children and young people safe. The team are also asking people to wear something orange to match the branding of their team and the campaign.
The annual campaign is delivered by the Fostering Network charity to raise awareness of how fostering can transform lives.
Councillor Alan Locker, Cabinet Member for Children’s Social Services, said:
“There are many people across the county borough who deserve praise for how they are supporting others during this difficult time, and I would like to thank all of them.
“As it is foster care fortnight, I would particularly like to encourage people to join us in paying tribute to the tremendous work of foster carers, who have a vital role in looking after our most vulnerable young people.”
Early last week, the team made an appeal to people to consider becoming a foster carer during their time in isolation.
Councillor Lockyer added:
“Foster caring can be a challenging job but it is extremely rewarding and it gives you an opportunity to make a real difference to a young person’s life.
“Our Fostering Team is continuing to recruit and train new carers during the coronavirus outbreak, and I would urge anyone who is thinking about becoming a foster carer to make contact.”
