Return to school sessions in Neath Port Talbot will be for three weeks
23 June 2020
Neath Port Talbot Council has announced the partial reopening of its schools from June 29th on a “check in, catch up and prepare” basis will take place over a three week period and that its schools will close on July 17th for the summer holidays.
The council’s head teachers and school staff have been working hard with governing bodies to prepare a smooth return to school for children and young people on June 29th and excellent progress has been made.
Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Culture, Cllr Peter Rees said:
“We know there’s been a lot debate over whether the return to school sessions should be for three or four weeks but we take the view the focus should be on what will provide the best outcome for our children and young people.
“We believe children and their parents plus our school staff need clarity over this issue which is why we are announcing a three week return with school holidays starting on July 17th.
“Our philosophy has always been that young people in Neath Port Talbot are given the best start in life so they can be the best they can be. This partial return to school will ensure young people will not have to go almost half a year without experience of the school setting.
“It will also help to make sure pupils, their parents and our staff are prepared mentally, emotionally and in practical terms for another important return to school – when the September term starts.”
