I am an 8 year old boy living in the Banwen area of Neath Port Talbot. I am autistic, have learning disabilities and communicate mainly through my actions, expressions and some signs. I am a lively, affectionate boy who enjoys being active and spending time out in the community. I especially love trampolining, swimming, soft play, playgrounds and parks. I enjoy going down slides, although I may need help with steps, and I like playing with playdough and kinetic sand. I also enjoy trips to the LC2, Brecon, shops and other fun places. At home I like playing games on my tablet in my bedroom away from my siblings when they are being loud. I love hugs and being tickled when I am comfortable, and I am very fond of chocolate, sweets and crisps. I need patient adults who will take time to get to know how I communicate, support me to make choices and help me enjoy activities safely.

 

• Supporting me to access the community safely as part of a 2:1 team, alongside another PA, parent or with family.

• Taking me to activities I enjoy, including swimming, soft play, trampolining, parks, playgrounds, the LC2, Brecon and suitable shops or days out.

• Providing support with personal care, including nappies.

• Assisting on family holidays or providing respite at home including overnights.

• Covering other PA’s sickness and annual leave.

• Experience of supporting children with additional needs would be helpful, but the right attitude and willingness to learn are more important.

• Caring, patient and understanding. 

• Reliable, punctual and committed.

• Calm and confident when supporting a child who may become distressed or dysregulated.

• Physically able to support an active child who may use his weight or resist moving when distressed.

• Enjoys being active and taking part in activities such as swimming, soft play, trampolining, parks and playgrounds.

• Able to work closely with another PA and my parents as part of a consistent team.

• Comfortable working in a family home where there are children, cats and a dog.

• Be comfortable to share a room with another PA to support children when away from home.

• A full UK driving licence is desirable. 

3-6 hours per week, usually at weekends with more available in the school holidays (two PAs required to work together), 6 hour shift per month – respite at home

If requested by the employer, two satisfactory references must be provided. This post is subject to a trial period of 1 month and a probationary period of up to 6 months.

Wages will be paid on a 4 weekly or monthly basis once a valid National Insurance (NI) number has been provided. You must be eligible to work in the UK and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement.

You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment. You will also be issued with a Personal Assistants Handbook when your employment commences.

You will be expected to undertake any mandatory training identified as relevant to this post. The cost of mandatory training will be met through the direct payment. Failure to attend mandatory training may result in your employment offer being withdrawn.
