Financial support for carers
If you care for someone, you may be entitled to some financial support.
Carer's Allowance
You could get Carer’s Allowance if you care for someone for at least 35 hours a week and they get certain benefits.
Carer’s Allowance can affect the other benefits that both you and the person you care for get.
Carer's Credit
You could get Carer’s Credit if you care for someone for at least 20 hours a week.
Council Tax reduction
Carer discount
You could get a Council Tax discount if you live in the same property as the person you are caring for and you are either:
- employed by them to provide care
- voluntarily providing care to them
Gone to live elsewhere to care for someone
You could get a Council Tax exemption if you've gone to live elsewhere to care for someone.
Your property must be unoccupied after you move.
