Wait for a while
Composting usually takes 9–12 months, and may take longer during colder months.
Creating compost
A mix of greens and browns is the perfect recipe for good compost.
Your greens are usually fresh and moist, whilst your browns are more tough and dry.
Do include
Greens
- Fruit and vegetable peelings
- Coffee grounds
- Grass clippings
- Eggshells
- Hair and pet fur
- Old flowers
Browns
- Leaves
- Shredded newspaper or cardboard (no tape or labels)
- Sawdust or wood chips
- Straw or hay
- Pine needles
- Egg boxes
Do not include
- Meat
- Fish
- Dairy products
- Pet waste
