Temporary event notices
If you want permission to hold an event which involves the short-term supply of alcohol, provision of regulated entertainment or provision of late night refreshment, you need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice. This system involves an event organiser (the “premises user”) giving a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) to the Licensing Authority and copying this to the relevant Police Authority.

Events over Christmas and New Year
If you are planning an event over the Christmas and New Year period in your premises you may need a Temporary Event Notice (TEN).
The organiser of the event must submit the notice at least ten working days before the event is due to take place.
A late TEN may be submitted but this must not be later than 5 working days before the event and must indicate that it is a late TEN.
Working days do not include Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays, which this year are Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day only.
The working days do not include the day of submission, nor the event day.
Licensable activities are:
- the sale or supply of alcohol
- late night refreshment (the sale of hot food & drink between 2300-0500 hours)
- regulated entertainment, which includes live and recorded music, plays, films, indoor sporting, boxing and wrestling
