Croeso Day Nursery
The former Calfaria Welsh Baptist Church has been given a new lease of life.
Owners of Croeso Day Nursery, Sam and Megan Fender have overseen the project in Cwmgrach.
The nursery will provide a much needed service to the local community. It will:
- provide a bilingual childcare service
- have more childcare places available
- create new jobs
Megan also hopes to use the building as a community space to host other activities, including:
- parent and baby groups
- baby yoga
Grants and funding
Amount awarded:
£275,000 from the Valleys & Villages Grant Fund.
Project features
External
To keep the external view intact to the public, the owners will keep the original:
- frontage
- stonework
- signage
The building is not listed, but is recognised as a building of local importance.
Internal
Internal works include new:
- energy efficient lighting and heating systems
- electrics
- plumbing
- insulation
- stud walls
- kitchen and bathroom
Green space
Improvements have been made to the rear garden space, transforming it with:
- an outdoor play area
- green planting
- bird boxes

The renovation makes a safe, warm space for children and families. It also improves local childcare and community support.
