Ferryfest Community Fun Day
Ferry Fest is a yearly community fun day in Briton Ferry. It begins with a pram parade held in memory of David May, who died at 18 in 1983. The parade moves through the town and finishes at Briton Ferry Rugby Club for a family festival.
Volunteers run the event. It has live music, food, drink, and children’s activities.
Grants and funding
This project was funded £5,860 by the Heritage Culture and Tourism Grant Fund.
The fund helped the festival improve facilities and plan for the future.
Project features
With the funding, the festival added:
- more toilets
- accessible toilets and baby changing facilities
- marquees for shade and shelter
- new chairs and tables
- safety barriers
These changes mean:
- shorter queues
- better access for disabled people, young children, and older visitors
- safer event areas
- lower running costs because equipment no longer needs to be hired every year
Making a difference
Organiser Karen Tyrell said:
“The funding has helped enormously. We were able to buy chairs, tables, and safety barriers, which saves money every year and keeps the festival sustainable.”
She added:
“The extra toilets, including accessible and baby changing units, reduce queues. The marquees were added because people wanted shaded areas and shelter, especially for children, older people, and vulnerable visitors.”
The improvements help the festival:
- welcome more people
- offer better facilities
- ease pressure on volunteers and funds
