New Mayor’s Cadet role on offer in Neath Port Talbot

11 September 2025

Neath Port Talbot Council is to begin the annual appointment of a Mayor’s Cadet for the current and forthcoming mayoral years.

The Mayor’s Cadet will play an important and valued role in supporting the mayor at a variety of civic functions and ceremonial events, including Remembrance Services, parades and community engagements.

While the term cadet is often used to refer to those training in the military, the Neath Port Talbot Mayor’s Cadet will be selected from other uniformed clubs and groups in the county borough.

The Mayor of Neath Port Talbot, Cllr Wayne Carpenter, said: “This is a prestigious opportunity for a young person to represent their organisation and gain valuable experience in public service and civic life.

”I am hopeful that the role is filled in time to support me at the Armistice and other Remembrance Services later this year.”

Because the mayoral year has already begun, the cadet chosen this year will serve for a longer term than subsequent cadets.

The council is now asking local non-military uniformed organisations to nominate a young person for the role.
