04 November 2025

Specialist play equipment company Kompan has been awarded the contract to deliver a brand new play space for Port Talbot’s Vivian Park.

Contract approved for major new playground project

Consultation was carried out with local schools to understand what children in the area really wanted and to ensure the design reflects the needs of the community.

When finished the new Vivian Park Playground will be packed with almost 80 play features including a giant treehouse offering multiple levels of tactile and sensory play, climbing frames, a toddler tower with slide, a carousel with bars, an inclusive five-way swing for all abilities to enjoy together, giant 3D frog and squirrel sculptures and a see-saw.

Kompan says its design for the playground will ensure that users of all ages can learn, interact, imagine and enjoy playing together regardless of abilities.

The award of the contract to Kompan followed a competitive tender process with several competing bids having been carefully evaluated. The project will be funded through the Welsh Government’s All Wales Play Opportunities Grant 2025/26.

Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene, Cllr Scott Jones, said: “This project supports our corporate objective of ensuring high-quality, accessible, and diverse play facilities, physical activities and recreational opportunities for all children and young people.

“We aim to provide opportunities for play working with local schools and families to ensure we have the right equipment in the right places. These goals are at the heart of our refurbishment programme.”

The Vivian Park project marks the start of a major strategic programme to improve play facilities across Neath Port Talbot. Over the next two years, 16 additional playgrounds will be refurbished, creating safe, inclusive, and inspiring spaces for children and families across the borough.
