24 December 2025

Now that the Flood Assistance Centre is no longer in place, we want to ensure residents affected by flooding have access to key information and support. Below you’ll find important contact numbers, information about the cause and preventing future floods, and details on refuse and recycling collections.

Causes of the Flood and Preventing Future Floods

We understand residents are concerned about the causes of flooding and what is being done to prevent future incidents in Briton Ferry.

Initial investigations indicate that there were different factors involved in different areas. As part of our statutory duties, we will be carrying out flood investigations in the impacted areas. These reports will be published and made available to the public in due course.

For residents in Pant Yr Heol, the Council will lead on this investigation and will share updates when available.

For residents in Ritson Street and Hunters Street, we encourage you to contact Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water for information and updates.

Over the longer term, we have been working to develop solutions to reduce flood risk in the Briton Ferry area. We have already made progress on two major flood risk management schemes at The Grandison Brook Culvert (close to Pant-yr-Heol) and Cryddan Brook (close to Castle Bingo).

Refuse and Recycling Collections

Following the collection of flood-damaged items last weekend, we will be arranging further collections for residents who haven’t yet put their items out because they are waiting for their insurers to assess them. We’ll provide a further update soon with details of when these collections will take place.

We will continue to collect your regular wheeled bin/black bag and recycling if you have been impacted by flooding.
