One of Europe’s Oldest Fairs Returns to Neath with Exciting New Attractions
26 August 2026
One of Wales' most historic and celebrated events is returning this September, bringing five days of family fun and an exciting new exhibition to the town.
Neath Great Fair is now in its 746th year, which is why it’s recognised as one of the oldest and most prestigious chartered fairs in Wales and Europe.
The fair consists of two main attractions:
- Street Fair: 9th-12th September, Neath town centre
- Funfair: 9th-13th September, Milland Road car park
Visitors can explore a vibrant mix of stalls offering everything from clothing, crafts, accessories, homeware and mystery parcels to a tempting selection of food and drink. Whether it's a traditional hog roast, Mexican cuisine, freshly made churros or brownies, there will be something to satisfy every appetite.
New for 2026: Miniature fairground magic
For the first time ever, Neath Great Fair will feature a second fairground experience, although on a much smaller scale.
On Saturday 12th September, Neath Library will host a fascinating exhibition of working miniature fairground rides, showcasing detailed models complete with realistic lighting, movement and remarkable craftsmanship.
In photos and videos, these intricate displays appear almost identical to full-sized rides, offering a unique experience for visitors of all ages.
Thanks to support from The Showmen's Guild, the exhibition will also feature a collection of classic fairground memorabilia, making it a must-see for enthusiasts, photographers and anyone interested in fairground heritage.
Discover Seven Centuries of Great Fair History
Visitors who can’t wait for the main event can also explore the story behind Neath Great Fair.
From 25th August to 12th September, Neath Library is hosting a special exhibition about the fair's remarkable 700-year history, revealing how the tradition began and how it has evolved into the much-loved event it is today.
Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Nature, Tourism and Wellbeing, Cllr Cen Phillips said:
“We’re excited to welcome the return of the iconic Neath Great Fair for its 746th year. What makes this event so special is how the organisers can celebrate its tradition whilst also introducing innovative ways to entertain, such as this year’s new miniature fairground exhibition.
“The fair draws traders and visitors from across the County, the region and even across Europe, bringing a fantastic atmosphere and supporting local businesses. We look forward to welcoming everyone for what’s sure to be another fun and successful event.”
