Council launches revised £575,000 Third Sector Grant Scheme

Third sector organisations across Neath Port Talbot are being invited to apply for a share of £575,000 after Neath Port Talbot Council approved a revised grant scheme. The Third Sector Grant Scheme application process opens on Thursday 24 September 2026, marking the start of a new funding programme designed to support third sector organisations that deliver vital services and activities for local communities.
Successful organisations will begin receiving funding from the 1st April 2027. This will provide an initial three-year funding award, with the potential for an extension of up to two further years, subject to satisfactory performance and compliance. The maximum funding award for each organisation is £50,000 per year.
The scheme will support organisations whose work aligns with one or more key priorities including:
Strong and sustainable community organisations - Build the capacity, infrastructure and long-term viability of organisations offering broad community support.
Reducing inequality and supporting vulnerable people - Support people experiencing disadvantage or vulnerability, including older adults, unpaid carers, disabled people, children, families and people experiencing poverty or financial hardship.
Improving health, well-being and prevention- Help people stay well, maintain social connections and avoid crisis, reducing pressure on statutory services.
The revised Scheme has been developed following an independent review and extensive engagement with third sector organisations and wider stakeholders. The intent is to ensure investment is directed towards organisations that can demonstrate the greatest positive impact for Neath Port Talbot residents.
Cabinet Member for Finance, Performance and Social Justice, Cllr Simon Knoyle, said:
"Our voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations make an invaluable contribution to the wellbeing of communities across Neath Port Talbot.
"I am delighted that applications are now open for this revised grant scheme, which will make £575,000 available each year to support organisations delivering important services and activities for local people.
"The Scheme has been shaped by an independent review and consultation with the sector. We’re keen to ensure public money is invested where it can achieve the greatest benefit for our residents.”
The application process will take place in two stages. Organisations must first submit an Expression of Interest, providing a short overview of their organisation, the work they undertake and the need they address. Those meeting the eligibility requirements and selected to progress will then be invited to submit a full application.
Key dates include:
- Expression of Interest opens: 24 September 2026
- Expression of Interest closes: 15 October 2026
- Full application stage opens (by invitation): 23 October 2026
- Full application stage closes: 20 November 2026
- Grant decisions communicated by: 31 December 2026
- Funding commences: 1 April 2027
