Bevin Boys Display
Thu 30 Oct 2025- - Fri 28 Nov 2025
The South Wales Miners Museum ‘Bevin Boys Exhibition’ is at Port Talbot Library until the end of November as part of the Mayor of Neath Port Talbot’s Armed Forces Festival.
As World War Two progressed, many experienced miners had been drafted into the armed forces. Coal was essential for powering the war machinery and providing energy for the nation. The British government conscripted approximately 48,000 young men aged 18 to 25 to work in the coal mines between 1943 and 1948 – these became known as the Bevin Boys after Ernest Bevin, the then Minister of Labour and National Service.
