Coastal legislation

Coastal Protection Act 1949

The Coastal Protection Act 1949 helps protect British coasts from erosion and sea damage. It gives local councils the power to prevent harmful works. The Act also allows work under the Coastal Risk Management Programme (CRMP), supported by Welsh Government.

Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009

Under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009, NPTCBC must maintain the Wales Coastal Path (WCP) in the South Wales Coast and Severn Estuary area. This path is 157 km long and requires regular maintenance such as repairing the path surface and clearing foliage.
