Shoreline Management Plan

Climate change is causing sea levels to rise, leading to more erosion on our coasts and estuaries. Studies show many UK coastal defences need urgent repairs. NPTCBC and Welsh Government are committed to protecting its coasts for the future.

The Shoreline Management Plan (SMP2) 2012 has four policies for coastal projects in Wales:

No active intervention

No immediate action needed, but the area will be monitored.

Hold the line

Measures are needed to prevent further erosion.

Managed realignment

Moving or improving defences to better protect the area.

Advance the line

Urgent action needed to restore lost land or banks.
