Stanley Place, Cadoxton
Current flood risks
- A series of floods, especially in October 2021, led to an investigation by NPTCBC. It was found that the current intake structure and trash screens are unsuitable. Debris causes significant blockage and overtopping of the intake structure. This has led to localised flooding at Stanley Place and the A4230 road on a number of occasions.
- 17 homes at Stanley Place are at risk to downstream flooding from the intake close to the A4230 road.
Proposed works
The proposed works started autumn 2024 and will finish Summer 2025.
Duration is likely to be ten (10) months.
Current stage
Phase 2 - Construction works were completed in March 2025.
Phase 1 - Construction works started April 2025.
The project is designed to protect the community of Cadoxton from flooding up to and including the 1% AEP.
Benefits
- Reduce ongoing maintenance call outs for NPTCBC drainage department.
- Reduce flooding to nearby properties and build strong communities for future generations.
- Provide a safer method of cleansing during times of prolonged rainfall events.
- Reduce flooding to 17 homes on Stanley Place.
- Improve the local community’s resilience to flood risk.
- Reducing highway flooding to the A4230 which is a bus route and primary route into Neath.
- Reduce the volume of debris at the intake structure on the main road.
Likely disruptions
- Restricted access to parts of Cadoxton Park during the work.
- The main entrance to Cadoxton Park from the Bryn Catwg lane will remain shut while the work is being done. Residents and the public should use a different entrance if they want to enter the field.
- Increased construction traffic along the A4230, Bryn Catwg estate and Stanley Place.
- The ‘Green Dragon’ bus shelter near the entrance to Stanley Place will not be in use for the duration of the work. A temporary bus shelter is being put up until a permanent spot is identified after the work is done.
