Flood and Water Management Act (FWMA 2010)
The government wants to keep people and their homes safe from floods. They have made some rules for different groups to follow.
Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council has to follow these rules to help stop or reduce flooding. But remember, floods are natural and sometimes can't be stopped completely.
The Council can make landowners take steps to reduce flood risks. They also take care of important roads and drains.
The Council will:
- Give advice to people on how to protect their homes from floods.
- Have workers ready to help during floods and fix things quickly.
- Keep roads clear during bad weather.
- Help people move to safe places if needed.
- Answer emergency calls for help if they can.
- Work with other groups to reduce the impact of floods and storms.
In emergencies, the Council will try to help everyone but might not be able to help every single home.
