Fly-tipping

Fly-tipping is the illegal deposit of waste onto land or water that does not have a licence to accept it.

Items may include:

  • building waste
  • toxic chemicals
  • electrical goods
  • furniture

If you see fly-tipped waste

Do not:
  • touch or remove the waste. It may contain syringes, broken glass or other hazardous substances
  • disturb the site, as evidence may help identify the culprits. You may need to testify in court if you do so
  • approach anyone you see fly-tipping

Registered waste carrier

If you hire someone to remove your waste, you must check:

  • they have a license to do so
  • where they will deposit the waste

We advise you to:

  • request a receipt or waste transfer document (a must if you are a business)
  • make a note of the number plate of the vehicle that removes your waste
  • pay by bank transfer

You can check the waste carrier database to find registered waste carriers.
