About our service
Our aim is to ensure learners get the best start in life and maximise their potential at school.
Who we support
We offer advice, guidance and language support to schools for learners:
- from the global majority
- who speak English or Welsh as an Additional Language (EAL/WAL)
- from Gypsy Roma and Traveller communities (GRT)
- who are Refugee and asylum seekers
- who are Service Children in Education (SCE)
What we do
We are a team of teachers and teaching assistants, most of whom are bilingual.
We support learners, parents, schools and governing bodies through:
- bilingual assessments to identify the support needed
- interpretation and translation support (if any of our team speak the language)
- home-school liaison and site visits to strengthen communication between parents, learners and schools
- partnership working with services and agencies to support schools, parents and learners
- advocacy support for parents and learners when appropriate
- GCSE home language support
- individual or in-class support, focused withdrawal sessions, and small group collaboration with staff
