Schools and organisations

We work with schools and organisations to achieve successful outcomes for children and young people.

Support

An Education Psychologist (EP) helps children, young people and school's that support them.

They help them to ensure the learner can achieve their potential.

They understand that learners may face challenges on their educational journey, such as:

  • communication and interaction
  • cognition and learning
  • behaviour
  • emotional and social development
  • sensory
  • physical

Key roles

EPs will work in different ways depending on the concerns raised by schools.

Their key roles include:

  • consultation with staff, parents, carers and professionals
  • individual assessment and observation of pupils
  • staff training
  • individual and group interventions
  • research and policy advice

Consultation

Before a consultation

School staff should discuss their concerns with the school's Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator (ALNCo).

This is to identify and support the pupil's needs on time.

After a consultation

If the pupil has made little progress after receiving further support, the school's ALNCo will then raise a case.

The ALNCo will need verbal consent from the pupil's parent or carer to raise a case.

The school and the EP will work together to agree the best course of action for the pupil.

This may involve further consultation with pupils, parents, carers and other professionals.

How to access us

You should discuss concerns about your child's learning with the schools ALNCo first.

The ALNCo will be able to offer support and advice on:

  • the next steps for your child’s needs at school
  • raising a case if your child's needs require further external advice and guidance
