Primary school based child therapy
Child therapy is available to Neath Port Talbot primary school pupils in years 1-6.
Child therapy
Child therapy helps children express and make sense of difficult experiences.
It can help a child understand their self-identity better and develop healthy relationships.
How child therapy can help
Children sometimes re-enact traumatic experiences. They do this to understand their past and cope with the future.
Therapy can help children in a variety of ways. They can:
- receive emotional support
- learn to understand about their own feelings and thoughts
- manage relationships and conflicts
Outcomes
Therapy can lead to general or more specific changes, for example:
- general benefits - reduced anxiety and increased self-esteem
- specific changes - improved behavior and relationships with family and friends
Children and young people often face significant life events during childhood.
Having a trusted adult to confide in can provide valuable empathy and support.
