Bin numbering scheme
Overview
We are rolling out bin numbering across the County Borough.
Why the scheme matters
The bin numbering scheme will:
- help improve recycling
- prevent the presentation of excess bins
- reduce problems for residents from stolen bins or nuisance associated with bins permanently being left out
- reduce problems with the presentation of bins on the wrong collection day
Official Council bin numbers also allow collection crews and enforcement teams to easily identify legitimate Council bins, helping ensure they are collected correctly.
What you need to do
We will write to you when the scheme is being rolled out in your area.
The pack we send you will include bin number stickers and instructions on what you need to do. The bin number stickers will match your house number.
You will need to place the stickers on your bin where they will be clearly visible to the collection crews.
I’ve noticed my bin has been numbered
In some areas, we will number your bin for you. Our Officers will only use the official Council bin numbers. The bin number will match your house number.
You will receive a letter outlining the scheme and confirming that we have numbered your bin. You do not have to take any further action. Continue to use your bin in the usual way.
I’ve just received a new/replacement bin and it has a number on it
When we deliver new or replacement bins, we will number the bin for you. The bin number will match your house number.
You do not have to take any further action. Continue to use your bin in the usual way.
I’ve already got my house number on my bin
We understand some residents may have already numbered their bins. However, we ask that you also apply the official Council number provided.
The crews will be looking for the officially numbered bins. It is only the official number that will identify the bin that must be collected.
The Council can state which bins we will collect. For example, we already state the number and size of the bin. You can find more information in our No Side Waste Policy. We are not obliged to collect waste if it’s presented in the wrong size bin, or in a bin without an official numbered sticker.
I’m in a bag collection area, will I get stickers for my bags
No. The bin numbering scheme is for bin collection areas only.
