Recycling over Christmas

Recycling centres

All recycling centres are closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's day.

Recycling wrapping paper

You can recycle wrapping paper if it passes the scrunch test. Watch our video to learn more.

Recycling cardboard

There is usually a considerable demand on our cardboard recycling service over Christmas. Put all your cardboard out for recycling. Cardboard needs to be broken up and placed in your white bags. We may collect it with its own vehicle after the main recycling vehicle drives through.

Christmas cards

Christmas cards can be recycled by putting them in your cardboard sack. They must not have any glitter or other non-card material such as plastic laminate.

Excess waste

If you have more non-recyclable waste after Christmas, you can put out up to three extra black bags on your refuse collection day between 27 December 2025 to 7 January 2026.

You can put out one wheeled bin with three black bags next to it.

If you don't have a wheeled bin, you can put out up to six black bags.
