Emergency Food Support Fund

Overview

Welsh Government has made funding available for emergency food support, combining:

  • the provision of safe, secure and warm spaces
  • direct food support

2025/26 funding

We have received £74,766 from the Welsh Government to deal with the food poverty crisis in Neath Port Talbot.

Organisations can apply for funding to help:

  • address food poverty and its root causes
  • vulnerable people struggling with food poverty and insecurity

Eligibility

The Fund will support
  • local charities
  • non-statutory activities that prevent or reduce food poverty
  • not for private profit organisations
  • schools (for activities that prevent or reduce food poverty)
  • constituted voluntary or community organisations with a bank account in the name of the organisation. The bank account should require at least 2 authorised signatures to access funds.
The Fund will not support
  • private individuals
  • statutory activities funded by statutory agencies

Using the funding

Eligible spend

You can use the fund for things like:

  • buying extra supplies of food and essential goods
  • community growing or cooking projects to tackle food poverty
  • extra costs as a result of more demand and overhead costs
  • extra costs for outreach work, especially to reach the most vulnerable
  • volunteer training
  • support for organisations that are experiencing difficulties in operating
  • start-up costs for developing services around community food provision, such as:
    • social supermarkets
    • community cafes
    • lunch clubs
    • advice services and hubs
    • food partnerships, creating local food schemes that help tackle food insecurity

Ineligible spend

You cannot use the fund to cover:

  • annual running costs
  • staff wages
  • Fare Share membership fees
  • utility bills
  • insurance costs

Apply

You can apply at any time, either until:

  • the fund money runs out
  • it gets too close to the 31 March 2026 deadline to be able to process and spend

  • capital - up to £830
  • revenue - up to £4000

Submitting your application

Email your completed application form to us before 31 March 2026.

What happens next

A Fund Assessment Panel will review your application. Their decision is final and you cannot appeal.

Successful applicants will need to:

  • complete a Funding Completion Form
  • supply proof of expenditure
  • spend their allocated funding by 31 March 2026
You must return any underspend.
