About the Blue Plaque Scheme

Celebrating and promoting our heritage in the County Borough is a key part of the Council’s Corporate Plan.

A Blue Plaque is an effective and visible way of celebrating and commemorating:

  • important figures
  • cultural traditions
  • events
  • heritage assets

Inspiring our future generations to play a continuing part in the protection and promotion of our culture, heritage and history.

How to apply

Council-funded plaques

If you are applying for a plaque funded by the council, you can apply between 1st April - 30th September each year. 

Self-funded plaques

If you are self-funding a plaque you can apply at any time.

Before you start

You should read the guidance and policy documents. These will help you:

  • prepare your application
  • provide as much information as possible to the blue plaque advisory panel 

They also provide further information on the scheme and the blue plaque process.
