Dormer roof improvement scheme
Funding awarded: £31,782
Pride in Place Impact Fund investment helped protect a village community centre by funding essential repairs to the dormer roof above its main lounge.
The lounge is a well-used community space that hosts a wide range of activities and services throughout the year. During the winter months, it also provides a Warm Hub where residents can access support, social connections and a comfortable place to spend time.
The project delivered important roof repair works to improve the condition of the building and help secure the future of this valued community facility.
Improvements made
- repairs to the tiled dormer roof
- replacement of the lead valley
- renewal of the dormer gable end
- installation of new timber eaves
Benefits to the community
The completed improvements have resolved long-standing problems with wind-driven rain entering the lounge through the dormer structure.
Before the works, severe weather regularly affected part of the lounge, limiting how the space could be used for social activities, community events and local services. The repairs have protected the building from further water ingress and helped safeguard previous investment made to improve the interior of the facility.
As a result, the lounge can now be used throughout the year, providing a safe, comfortable and weatherproof environment for community activities.
The project is particularly beneficial during the winter months, when the centre operates as a Warm Hub. The improvements help ensure that residents continue to have access to a welcoming space that supports community wellbeing, reduces social isolation and provides opportunities for people to connect with others.
Looking ahead
By protecting the building from future weather-related damage, the project has helped secure the long-term use of an important community asset.
The improved facilities will enable the community centre to continue hosting activities, events and support services for local residents, ensuring it remains a welcoming place for people to meet, participate and access help when they need it.
