Pontrhydyfen Weight Lifting Club

Community Gym Improvement

Funding awarded: £5,687

Pride in Place Impact Fund investment helped improve fitness facilities at Pontrhydyfen Weight Lifting Club through the installation of new gym equipment at Pontrhydyfen Community Centre.

The project replaced ageing equipment with modern, reliable alternatives designed to support strength training, mobility and overall physical wellbeing. The upgrades provide local residents with access to improved exercise facilities while creating a safer and more comfortable environment for people of all ages to stay active.

Improvements made

  • installation of a new machine to support back strength, posture and physical wellbeing
  • replacement of outdated gym equipment
  • installation of a professional-grade dumbbell rack
  • provision of a new flat weightlifting bench with enhanced stability and support
  • improvements to the safety and reliability of training facilities

Benefits to the community

The project has modernised the club's training facilities, ensuring members have access to safe, reliable and high-quality equipment.

Prior to the improvements, some equipment required frequent maintenance, affecting availability and increasing running costs. The replacement equipment has improved reliability and reduced disruption, allowing members to train more consistently and confidently.

The investment has also improved safety and comfort within the gym. The addition of a new dumbbell rack and upgraded weightlifting bench has created a more organised training space while supporting a wider range of exercise activities.

Members have responded positively to the improvements, highlighting the quality and ease of use of the new equipment. The upgraded facilities are supporting a diverse membership of people aged 15 to 77, helping residents improve their fitness, mobility and overall wellbeing.

As well as supporting physical health, the club provides opportunities for social connection, bringing people together in a welcoming and supportive community environment.

Looking ahead

The improved facilities will help the club attract and retain members, ensuring local residents continue to have access to quality fitness equipment within their community.

By investing in modern, durable equipment, the project has strengthened the long-term sustainability of the club and helped secure its future as an important community asset that supports health, wellbeing and social connections for local people.
