Overview
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise to support serving personnel, veterans and their families.
It aims to make sure members of the armed forces community are treated fairly and with respect. They should be able to access services in the same way as other people.
Some people may need extra support. This includes people injured through service and families bereaved by service.
Neath Port Talbot Council signed the Armed Forces Covenant on 15 May 2023. The council is committed to supporting the armed forces community across the county borough.
Working with partners
The council works with partners to support serving personnel, veterans and their families.
Support is available through local services and organisations across Neath Port Talbot and Wales.
Armed Forces Champions
The council has two Armed Forces Champions:
The Champions help make sure the council considers the needs of serving personnel, veterans and their families.
They also:
- raise awareness of issues affecting the armed forces community
- advocate for serving personnel, veterans and their families
- support the council's commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
Armed Forces Liaison Officer (AFLO)
The AFLO for Neath Port Talbot, Swansea and Bridgend is Finola Pickwell.
AFLOs help serving personnel, veterans and their families find advice, services and support in their area.
They can:
- raise awareness of the Armed Forces Covenant and the issues affecting the armed forces community in Wales
- improve access to information about the Covenant
- improve communication between local authorities and partner organisations
- promote and sharing good practice across Wales
