Site management

Looking after nature helps people, animals, and plants. It also means future generations can enjoy the beauty of Neath Port Talbot.

NPT Council is committed to protecting and enhancing nature across the county.

We manage a wide range of sites that are important for :

  • biodiversity
  • conservation
  • public enjoyment

These sites are cared for under our Biodiversity Duty Plan.

Local Nature Reserves (LNRs)

The sites offer habitats like wetlands, woodlands and meadows.

We look after five special nature areas where you can:

  • enjoy wildlife
  • learn about the environment
  • relax outdoors

These are located at:

  • Eaglesbush Valley
  • Pant-y-Sais Fen
  • Swansea Canal
  • Cwm Du Glan & Glanrhyd Plantation
  • Bryn Tip

Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINCs)

SINCs are special places chosen because they have rare plants, animals, or habitats that need protecting.

Many SINCs are protected through the Development Management Process.

Council-owned SINCs are actively managed to preserve biodiversity.

Country Parks

Our three Country Parks offer accessible ways to connect with nature:

These parks have easy accessible paths, useful facilities, and lovely nature for everyone to enjoy.

NPT Bee Friendly Scheme

Our NPT Bee Friendly Scheme is helping pollinators thrive across Neath Port Talbot.

By changing how we manage grasslands and roadside verges we are:

  • supporting biodiversity
  • improving soil health
  • building a more resilient environment for wildlife and people
