Neath town centre traffic study
Overview
We will be carrying out a traffic study in and around Neath Town Centre between late September and early October 2026.
The study will help us build a clearer picture of how traffic, buses, pedestrians and cyclists move around the town. It will also help us understand how the transport network may be affected by transport improvements, development, regeneration projects, and other investments.
The information collected will provide an evidence base for future decision-making and investment. It will help us assess issues such as congestion, journey time reliability, network resilience, and the potential impact of planned transport and development projects.
What the survey involves
As part of the study, temporary cameras and other survey equipment will be placed at selected locations around the town centre.
The purpose of the equipment is to collect information about traffic movements and travel patterns so that we can better understand how the transport network is operating.
Traffic studies form part of our normal day-to-day work and are regularly carried out across the county borough. However, because of the scale of this particular study, the equipment used may be more visible than residents are used to seeing.
Temporary equipment only
All survey equipment will be temporary and will only remain in place for the period needed to collect the information required for the study.
We do not expect the survey work to cause any disruption to normal travel, and residents can continue to use the town centre as usual while the study is taking place.
