Early years (pre-school)
Parents and carers can request support from our Early Years Educational Psychologists.
Our team of community psychologists can support early years children in their:
- development
- learning
- play
- social and emotional wellbeing
We take a holistic approach to supporting each child with their family.
Eligibility
Support is available to parents and carers of children who:
- are 0-5 years old
- are not currently in nursery school education
- live in Neath Port Talbot
Each of our psychologists supports a different area.
The areas depend on school catchment areas and where your child is likely to go to nursery.
Support
We work with the adults who know the child best and who are most important to them.
First, we focus on what the child can do. We can then provide advice on the level of support they'll need.
The types of advice and support we offer are:
- play and educational activities to support your child's learning at home
- ideas to help support your child’s wellbeing and emotional development
- preparing a child transitioning to an education setting
Consultation
Our support usually starts with an initial consultation.
This can help solve problems and decide if more advice or support is needed.
We can also find out about a child's development by:
- observing through playful activities
- working with other early years professionals
- contributing to the council's Early Years Multi-Agency Panel (EYMAP)
- carrying out further individual consultations or with other teams and services
- supporting a child’s transition to childcare or school
- running workshops for early years professionals, parents and carers
- providing advice and information at stay and plays within the community
