Providing information
All documents provided must be original.
If you do not bring the required documentation or fail to meet the residency or other requirements, the appointment cannot proceed.
You will need to schedule another appointment and pay the fee again.
Forms of identification
You will need to bring two forms of identification:
- a full British passport
- a full birth certificate
- a driving licence
If you were born after 1983 you must show a British passport. If you don't have one, you need to show your full birth certificate and your mother's birth certificate.
Proof of address
You will need to bring one document to show your current address:
- a recent bank statement
- a council tax statement
- a utility bill
Additional documents
You may need to bring some additional documents if either of you have:
- changed your name
- had a spouse or civil partner that has died
- been in a marriage or civil partnership before
Proof of name change
You will need to bring proof of the change (for example a name change document)
A spouse or civil partner that has died
You will need to bring proof of the:
- marriage or civil partnership certificate
- spouse or civil partner’s death certificate
If you’ve been married or in a civil partnership before
If either of you is divorced or was in a civil partnership that has been dissolved you will need to bring:
- the final divorce or dissolution document
- the marriage or civil partnership certificate
- signed translations of any documents not in English
