Making a difference
In 2025–26, Neath Port Talbot were allocated £14.3 million in funding for the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). The transition-year fund supported economic growth, community cohesion, and local skills development across three main priority areas:
Supporting Local Businesses
Awarding grants to help start-ups, encourage entrepreneurship, and safeguard jobs.
Communities and Place
Backing local initiatives where poverty and equality are central themes, enhancing public spaces, and boosting high street resilience.
People and Skills
Helping economically inactive and unemployed residents build qualifications, find work, and develop core skillsets.
Supporting local business
The Supporting Local Business UKSPF priority focused on helping businesses thrive, to drive local economic growth and job creation.
The following outputs and outcomes were achieved:
- 600 Enterprises receiving non-financial support
- 65 Enterprises receiving grants
- 131 Potential entrepreneurs assisted to be enterprise ready
- 16 New enterprises created
- 126 Jobs created
- 183 Jobs safeguarded
Communities and place
The Communities and Place priority of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) focused on improving the places people live in and fostering pride in local communities.
The following outputs and outcomes were achieved:
- 18 units Low / zero carbon infrastructure installed
- 10,732m² Land rehabilitated (m²)
- 25 Feasibility studies supported
- 78,073m² Green / blue space created/improved (m²)
- 1,092 Commercial space completed / improved
- 29 Amenities / facilities created or improved
- 13 Tourism, culture or heritage assets created or improved
- 503 Volunteering opportunities supported
- 17 Community-led arts, culture or heritage programmes
- 1,184 Local events or activities supported
- 49 Organisations receiving grants
- 1,748 Households receiving support
People and skills
The People and Skills priority focused on supporting individuals in overcoming barriers to employment and improving their skills to progress in life and work.
The following outputs and outcomes were achieved:
- 500 Economically inactive people engaging with keyworker support services
- 1,842 People supported to participate in education
- 1,298 People supported to access basic skills courses
- 1,666 People gaining qualifications or completing a course following support
- 270 People in education/training following support
- 164 People in employment, including self-employment following support
