Learner Travel Assistance Policy Consultation
Neath Port Talbot Council is inviting you to get involved in shaping its updated Learner Travel Assistance Policy for the 2027–28 academic year. This policy sets out how decisions are made on eligibility for travel support, including the role of the nearest suitable school and when discretionary assistance may be available for example, for Welsh-medium education and faith schools. As part of the update, the policy has been renamed from Home to School Transport to Learner Travel Assistance, reflecting a broader, more flexible approach that includes a range of travel options such as:
- traditional transport
- personal travel budgets
- independent travel training
- active travel where safe and appropriate
It also aims to make processes clearer, including how decisions are reviewed and appealed, so families better understand the support available.
Your involvement will help ensure the policy is fair, transparent and supports learners and families across the county borough.
We are holding three public drop-in events to help people understand and comment on our proposals. At our drop-in events you can view our proposals and speak to our team who will be on hand to answer any queries you may have.
