Scaffold permit
Overview
You need a permit to erect scaffolding on a public road, verge or pavement.
Permit applications can only be made by scaffolding companies. We do not issue permits to members of the public.
A permit costs £114 and is valid for 28 days. After this, you'll need a new permit.
You must have public liability insurance for at least £5 million
Apply
Before you start
You will need:
- your company name and address
- the company email address and telephone number
- to confirm you have public liability insurance for at least £5 million
- the address where the scaffolding will be placed
- the position of the scaffolding
- when you want the permit to start and end
- a debit or credit card
What happens next
After you apply, we will:
- process your application (usually in three to five working days)
- inspect the site to make sure it's suitable
- let you know if we have approved or rejected your application
You cannot appeal if your application is rejected
