What happens at the tribunal
The tribunal is independent from the council. It looks at the law, the evidence, and your situation at the time of the decision.
There are two types of hearings:
- Oral hearing – you or your representative can attend and speak
- Paper hearing – the tribunal looks at written evidence only
You’ll get a copy of the decision after the hearing.
If your appeal is successful
We will update your benefit as soon as we receive the tribunal’s decision.
If your appeal is unsuccessful
You may be able to appeal again, but only on a point of law.
This would go to the Social Security Commissioners.
